Bihar Assembly Speaker resigns
VK Sinha, the Speaker for the Bihar Assembly - a BJP MLA - has resigned from his post after much uproar. Sinha had refused to resign despite the Assembly expressing a lack of confidence in him. His resignation means the trust vote will go ahead today.

BJP in the Speaker seat
Sinha, a senior BJP leader, evidently enjoys the backing of his party which has vowed to take on "Paltu Kumar", a pejorative it has coined for Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and his many volte faces, and the new government which has been formed through "back door", a charge the party has, ironically, been facing since 2017.

Deputy Speaker Maheshwar Hazari too seemed confounded and when asked how would the ruling coalition stop Sinha from occupying the Chair, reacted with exasperation.
CBI raids 16 places, including RJD MLC's house
The Centre Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is conducting raids at 16 places in Delhi, Patna and district Gopalganj of Bihar in connection with the alleged land-for-job scam involving former Railway Minister Lalu Prasad. The raids are also being held at the residence of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MLC Sunil Singh, who is considered to be close to Lalu. The CBI team is currently scanning various documents at his house.
Mahagathbandhan has 160 in its kitty
The 'Mahagathbandhan', which comprises Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's JD(U), besides RJD, Congress, CPI(ML), CPI and CPI(M), has a combined strength of more than 160 in the 243-strong House.
