HYDERABAD: BJP state chief Bandi Sanjay Kumar was told to stop his 'Praja Sangrama Yatra' by Warangal police on Tuesday for conducting it without permission from authorities and making provocative speeches. A notice was served in the afternoon to Sanjay who has been kept under house arrest at his Karimnagar residence.
The party has now given a call for statewide protest on Wednesday between 11am and 1pm against police decision to stop the yatra. Sanjay will also hold a sit-in at his residence in Karimnagar. Cops have reportedly told him to desist from holding a protest at his home while being under house arrest.
Sanjay has stated that the decision will be challenged legally. BJP said that it would file a lunch motion petition in the high court on Wednesday.
Padayatra in-charge G Manohar Reddy also announced that the BJP would hold a big public meeting to conclude the yatra in Hanamkonda on August 27, which would be attended by party national president JP Nadda. However, much depends on the directions the court would give on the yatra.
Earlier in the day, for nearly an hour, a tense situation prevailed at Sanjay's "Dharma Deeskha" camp near Station Ghanpur in Jangaon. After arresting him at the camp, the police took him to his Karimnagar residence and placed him under house arrest as he was preparing for a sit-in wearing black badge to protest the arrests of BJP activists in Hyderabad on Monday while demonstrating outside TRS MLC K Kavitha's house.
"The yatra has been conducted without permission and Bandi Sanjay Kumar was making provocative statements. There is an apprehension of breach of peace in the area resulting in a serious law and order problem. Hence, you are hereby directed to immediately stop the 'Praja Sangrama Yatra'. Otherwise, action will be taken against you as per law to maintain peace," the police said in the notice.
Nadda dubbed the house arrest as an undemocratic action by TRS government. In Delhi, BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi asked, "Why was BJP Telangana chief Sanjay arrested if the TRS does not fear allegation against Kavitha?
