Xiaomi has shipped more than 7 million 5G smartphones since the launch of its first smartphone in May 2020, the company said in a tweet, citing data from IDC India.

"This is a testimony of consumer's avid interest in being fast adopters of the upcoming 5G evolution in the country and Xiaomi's contribution in supporting this growth," the company said in a statement Wednesday.

IDC India reported that Xiaomi jumped to the second spot in volume terms for 5G shipments in Q2 2022, with devices like the Mi 11i series and the Redmi Note 11T.

However, the average selling price of Xiaomi's 5G smartphones remained high at $268 (roughly Rs 21,380) while the industry average grew for the fourth consecutive quarter to $213 in Q2 2022 (roughly Rs 17,000).

The top spot in 5G devices is claimed by Samsung with a 29% share.

Close rival Realme, which came in third in terms of market share, according to IDC, has also shipped around 5 million 5G smartphones in India, since its first offering in 2020, the company CEO Madhav Sheth told ET in an interview.

IDC India said Realme came second in the second quarter with 6.1 million shipments.

According to CMR, 5G smartphone shipments grew over 163% on-year in Q2 2022, and over 300% on-year in Q1, with one out of every three devices being 5G capable.
