MYSURU: Former Karnataka CM BS
Yediyurappa on Tuesday said
Indira Gandhi had hailed Hindu Mahasabha spearhead Vinayak Damodar Savarkar as a "remarkable son of India". During the launch of the 'Savarkar Rath Yatra' from Mysuru Palace, Yediyurappa said Indira had addressed the Hindu Mahasabha leader as 'Veer' Savarkar. "But today there are attempts in Karnataka to sully Savarkar's image," he said.
While he did not take names, Yediyurappa was targeting opposition leader Siddaramaiah, who had contested Savarkar's contribution to India's freedom struggle. Yediyurappa described Savarkar "as a leader who fought to protect the Hindu religion". "India is looking to become a world leader but there are attempts to degrade leaders who fought for Indian values," Yediyurappa said.
