Not really expected obviously. My record against him hasn't been great, 8-0 I think. But it's great to win, and always tough to play against those who've won at highest level. I knew I had my chances, but had to be disciplined. I paced the game well. Knew which points to push and which was ok to lose even. My strategy was correct. He's not at his best. My goal is always to play one more round. I've worked a lot on my mental side, and am at my calmest possible in a lot of matches. I feel I'm in control and not following any opponent. The crowd here feels alright after playing in Indonesia and Malaysia. Not very loud but they were silently supporting him. Good the crowd could come to watch Live after not being able to at the Olympics: HS Prannoy to BWF
So, Prannoy plays off Lakshya Sen on Thursday for a place in the quarters. Malaysian Lee Zii Jia has the Chinese Zhao to contend with next, but a Lakshya vs Prannoy prequarter, is the beginning of one right headache for any potential opponent ! The draw is what it is, but like Prannoy told BWF ahead of the Momota clash, you'll have to beat the top names to win a World Championship medal. There's no dancing around that one. He's taken out the big one. There's a sweet-smiling buddy next up. Top quality all India clash that shall be.
Prannoy beats Momota! HS Prannoy has utterly dominated Kento Momota, winning against the home contender 21-17, 21-16. Outplayed, outwitted, outstroked. Even by his giantkill standards, this one will rank as his best ever. This is HS Prannoy's 1st win over Kento Momota in 9 matches.
The usual inflated Clappers (there's debate if origins are Korean or Japanese) have been replaced by some sort of crazy-sonic Rattlers ! On court, it's Prannoy's sweet symphony. 14-10
Two net-chords and one low reflex defense landing on the line. Momota can't catch a break ! And then there's Prannoy's backhand. There was Midas once, and then there's HSP's racquet here
Those are as perfectly constructed 21 points as they come. He's peppered left-handed Momota's backhand backcourt with stingers. Shelled him on that back corner. Indian takes the opening set 21-17
Monster acceleration on Prannoy's cross-court smashes. But like commentator Gill Clark is alluding, he'll need to pin Momota to back court, keep him far far away from the net to not let the Japanese assert dominance. 13-12 Indian
You don't often catch the ultra-compact Momota off guard with a body attack. But Prannoy's deceptive movements gave off the impression he was going for the lines, yet the shuttle was upon Momota at awkward length for 6-4. There'll be more of those, as the Indian starts damn well, 10-5. Challenge along the sideline now

It's a 7-0 lopsided head to head in favour of Kento Momota against HS Prannoy. All straight sets. Not quite a game style, Prannoy fancies. But he'll come armed with a plan. 4-2 in the first.
Satwik-Chirag beat Guatemalan Jonathan Solis - Anibal Marroquin 21-8, 21-10. It's unseeded Bay Jeppe-Molhede Lasse next in Round 3 after the Danes shocked 13th seed Malaysian Goh-Tan. The spunky Indian pair Shikha Gautam - Ashwini Bhat snuck up on Koreans Kim So Yeong - Kong Hee Yong in the second set and gave them one right fright. The unexpected resistance from the combative Indians came after a one-sided 21-5 start. Koreans eventually won 5-21, 21-18, 13-21.
Olympic champion Chen Yufei of China defeated Malaysia's Soniia Cheah 21-17, 21-15 to reach women's singles 3rd round at
Men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty | HS Prannoy will be in action. Stay tuned for more updates.
Smash error in the net. Apt end to the 21-9, 21-17 loss. The CWG losses had chipped away at his confidence, and the errors continued unabated. It's not that he isn't error-prone when he wins, just that the winners out-score them botches. Not in Tokyo though. Srikanth remains India's most stylish player without a World title. There's always Paris. Or the All England sooner. But a confidence crisis can't eat him up like this, every time a sluggish shuttle fetches up. That ll need work.
Down a set 21-9, but that's alright. Srikanth has been starting slow whole summer. It's in Set 2 when all seems quiet and dead that the brooder's game can come alive. He's playing it patiently, giving himself time. If he can control the errors....
And to top it all, that deadly dull, ponderous, lagging, soporific, lazy-laggard, drunk-on-air, inertia leaden SLOW shuttle. Srikanth's attacking game hates that shuttle
For Kidambi Srikanth, first the best of the young Chinese, then the best Malaysian, and then the best Japanese. Alternately, the best Indian? ๐๐๐ค๐ซฃ Fun times ๐
The term 'Quartered' had dire, morbid connotations in the English penal ways of yore. But India's dreaded quarter at the Badminton World's this year, minus the gore, does carry a look of a bloodbath. It's like win a hard match to gift yourself an even tougher date โน๏ธ๐ค Kidambi Srikanth vs Zhao Jun Peng.
Thinaah-Pearly bt Treesa-Gayatri 21-8, 21-17 in 35 mins.
Lakshya Sen has a chunky 7 point lead in the second at 16-9 after taking the first 21-17
