KOLKATA: An Air Traffic Controller of Kolkata airport and his daughter were injured when a truck, driving recklessly along New Town Main Arterial Road, hit their car while overtaking and dragged it for 100m before coming to a halt.
The accident took place near Eco Park's gate 3 around 9pm on Monday, when ATC officer Soumya Ghosh and his family were driving to their Hataiara home in New Town. The car was left mangled.
Officers of New Town traffic guard stopped the truck and arrested the young driver who didn't have a licence. The driver claimed he was heading towards City Centre II with an empty truck to pick soil.
Meanwhile, a car pile-up was reported from near Tata Medical Centre when a moving taxi suddenly broke down in the middle of the road, leading to four other cars ramming into one another behind the taxi. It led to minor injuries to some of the passengers in the cars.
