GURUGRAM: Local BJP MLA Sudhir Singla has alleged discrepancies in the recent population survey carried out by the MCG and demanded that the process of civic body polls slated for October be put on hold till the time there is clarity on the issue.
Meanwhile, a petition has been filed in the Punjab and Haryana high court claiming that no door-to-door survey was conducted by the MCG for the population survey.
Calling the survey "totally illegal", Singla, in a letter to the Haryana CM and the district administration, has questioned how it is possible that in 20 out of 35 wards, the population is 16.13 lakh whereas the remaining 15 wards have 6.52 lakh people. He has urged the state government and the MCG not to form the ad-hoc committee on ward delimitation till a fresh population survey is initiated.
When contacted, Singla told TOI he had raised the issue with chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar. "I have urged him to resolve the issue at the earliest."
One of the local councillors said that in Chakkarpur village, where the total population has been shown as 46,500, "how can the eligible votes be only around 4,000". "The agency has included all the floating population who are not permanent residents." Another councillor added, "In the MG Road area, eligible votes in different housing societies are around 4,000, whereas the population, as per the survey, is much lower."
Responding to the MLA's allegations, Gurugram 's deputy commissioner Nishant Yadav said that he will get the issue examined.
Meanwhile, a petition has been filed in the Punjab and Haryana high court claiming that no door-to-door survey was carried out by the MCG. The court has sought replies from the Gurugram DC, the MCG commissioner and the private firm contracted for the survey on the same. The next hearing is slated for November 14.
Rahul Dagar, the petitioner, claimed in his plea that the residents of various localities within MCG limits told him that no employees of the agency had come to carry out any survey in their areas.
