NOIDA: Residents of the society where Shrikant Tyagi abused and assaulted a woman after she objected to planting trees in the open area have submitted a petition with the district magistrate, seeking swift action against the accused.
A Supreme Court lawyer and resident of the society, said, "What happened that day was not a stray incident. It's high time that we take a call on how to ensure peace at the society. As part of our measures, we submitted a petition with the DM and requested swift action against Shrikant Tyagi under the Goondas Act," he added.
According to the lawyer, this was not the first time that Tyagi had engaged in a fight with the residents. "There have been several instances of him abusing and threatening other residents. He was also using the common area for his own purposes without taking any permission whatsoever," he said. With time, residents had got used to Tyagi's unruly behaviour, the lawyer said.
"He would always portray himself as a strongman and wield his political influences. He would be surrounded with bouncers and gunmen, which instilled a sense of fear in us," the lawyer said.
