Prayagraj: Authorities of Prayagraj Division of North Central Railway (NCR) have decided to close the facility of booking parcels at five stations of the division. Railway parcel service has been completely stopped at Manikpur, Fatehpur, Mainpuri, Shikohabad and Kanpur Anwarganj railway stations of the division. The decision has been taken by the authorities despite the fact that locals will have to bear its brunt. However, railway officials have their own logic to end this service which is broadly based on the fact of non-existent parcel booking for the past many years.
To keep the service functional, railway personnel are engaged in three shifts for parcel booking at these railway stations.
Along with this, railway employees are also deployed for loading and unloading of the consignment brought for booking. In such a situation, the railway officials, after much brainstorming decided to end the parcel facility at all the five stations. At present, preparations are being made to eliminate this facility at many more railway stations. Public Relation Officer (PRO), Prayagraj division,
Amit Singh has confirmed the complete closure of parcel service at five stations.
He said that there was no booking of parcels at these stations. This was done after following the proper process, including formation of the committee and recommendation of the same.
