Malar Bonderam comes back to life after two year break

Two years of lull because of COVID restrictions, we’re finally laid off as Goans got together to celebrate Bonderam at Malar on Saturday. Organised by the St Mathias Sports Club, the festival also featured Bonderamchem Jevonn and Bonderamchi Passoi.

Talking to Marius Fernandes, who was a part of the organizing committee, said, “It was a great day, we had a lot of people who visited the festival and since it was held after almost a two-year break, the enthusiasm and fervor was great.”

While talking about the festival he said, “For the first time we had the Bonderamchem Jevonn, which was a delicious meal prepared by the locals. We served ukede xit, sungtachi, bendeachi kodi and cabbage foogath.”

The Bonderamchi Passoi was walking to all the four vaddos in Malar with a variety of flags. “Every vaddo gave out some traditional sweets made in local households. Vaddos served alle belle, godshe, pateleos and latod - sweets made from mostly jaggery and coconut.

“We had a group which performed a play on how single-use plastic should be avoided by people. There have been a buzz which was seen during Bonderam this year, which was missing,” he adds.
