Rajkot: Father and sister of a man, who had married a woman from a different faith, were allegedly thrashed and their entry barred from the village in Jamnagar district.
The victim Kishore Karsariya’s son Hiren and Yusuf Noida’s daughter Muskan, had fallen in love and eloped to get married two months ago. The couple had started living in Rajkot city as husband and wife.
However, the interfaith marriage did not go down well with Muskan’s family. Both families live in Hasthal village of Kalavad taluka.
Karsariya owns 10 bigha agricultural land in the village and often visits there to oversee the cultivation.
On Sunday, Karsariya and his daughter Purna had gone to the farm where Muskan’s uncles, Rahim and Hanif, reached there and picked up a fight with the duo. They told them that their entry was banned in the village after Hiren eloped with Muskan. They then allegedly beat up Karsariya and Purna with sticks and pipes and threatened to kill them if they entered the village.
Despite being injured, the father-daughter duo went to a nearby doctor, who referred them to Rajkot for further treatment. Karsariya has lodged a complaint against Rahim and Hanif.
