Gurgaon: Five youths — all in their early 20s — died in two separate accidents on the streets of Gurgaon on Monday, just six hours apart.
While four persons died on the Wazirpur-Farukhnagar road when a private bus crashed into their car around 6am, an MBBS student was killed when the car being driven by his friend rammed from behind a truck parked on the wrong side near the Garhi-Harsaru flyover a little after midnight.
Early on Monday, five friends were returning from a party at a farmhouse in Farrukhnagar in a Baleno. They had just taken a U-turn near a petrol pump in Khetawas village when the speeding bus crashed into the car. Such was the impact of the crash that the car was dragged for several metres before stopping on its wheels. The bus, police said, was carrying employees of a private company.
While four occupants of the car were declared dead on arrival at a nearby hospital, one was admitted with grievous injuries. The four youths who died were identified as Abhishek Chaudhary (22), Paras Batolar (23), Luv Chaudhary (20) and Jashnav Kakkar (23).
Abhishek, his family in Agra said, had recently graduated from a college in Mathura and was planning to take coaching for CAT in Delhi. His sister, Parul, told TOI that Abhishek had spoken about the farmhouse party but was not sure if he would attend that.
“I would call him at 8 every morning and ask him about his preparations for CAT. When I dialled his number this morning, no one received the call. A few minutes later, I got a call and was informed about the accident. My father and I left for Gurgaon immediately,” said Parul.
Luv and Abhishek had graduated from the same Mathura college and were planning to enroll themselves at a CAT coaching institute in Delhi. “We are a family of farmers. Luv was the youngest of three brothers and had gone to Delhi five days ago with Abhishek for CAT coaching,” said Dhirender Chaudhary, Luv’s brother, from Mathura.
It was only six years ago that Paras, who was from Faridabad, lost his father. A graduate from Delhi University, he would do odd jobs to sustain his family of a mother and younger sister.
The fourth deceased, Jasvin Kakkar, was also from Faridabad and a close friend of Paras. All four had met while planning to pursue CAT coaching classes in Delhi.
“He, too, lost his parents several years ago and had an uncle who lives in South Africa. One of his relatives is expected to come and take the body,” a friend said.
Nitin Sangwan (23), the fifth occupant of the Baleno, is undergoing treatment at a private hospital for head injuries. Police said he was driving the car.
The driver of the bus fled after the accident, leaving the vehicle behind. The police said they were looking for him. An FIR has been registered against the bus driver at Farrukhnagar police station under sections 279 (rash driving), 304A (causing death by negligence) and 337 (causing hurt by an act which endangers human life) of the IPC.
In the second incident, a Creta had just crossed the Garhi-Harsaru flyover when it crashed into a truck parked on the wrong side around 12.30am on Monday. The car was mangled on the left, where Sunny — in his early 20s — was sitting.
Sunny, the police said, was in the final year of his MBBS course at SGT University. His friend, Ankit, was driving the car and they were returning to their college from Sector 83 when the accident happened.
“The headlights of the truck were on and it almost blinded me. I couldn’t see the truck parked on the wrong side and crashed into it. I, somehow, managed to pull Sunny out of the car and took him to the hospital. But he was declared dead on arrival,” said Ankit, a student of the same university as Sunny.
An FIR was registered against the truck driver at Sector 10 police station under sections 283 (danger or obstruction in public way) and 304 (causing death by negligence) of the IPC.
