LUDHIANA: A 35-year-old auto driver was found murdered in his three-wheeler at Barota Road near Sidhwan Canal on Monday morning. Police said prima facie probe suggests that the man was brutally attacked with blunt and sharp-edged weapons.
The deceased has been identified as Bajinder Singh, aka Sonu Kumar, 35, of Shimlapuri. He had left his house around 8.30pm on Sunday, saying he will return in some time, but did not. The family tried to contact him, but to no avail.
On Monday morning, passersby found him dead in the auto.
Shimlapuri SHO inspector Pramod Kumar said, "When Sonu was at home, he received a call from someone and left the house saying he was going to Samrat Colony and will return in some time. When he did not return home, his family tried to call him, but his phone was switched off."
The deceased has injury marks on head and arms. "It seems he was attacked with blunt and sharp-edged weapons. Sonu's cellphone and the battery of the auto are missing," added the inspector. A CCTV camera installed a few metres from the spot has captured some men brawling. "It is suspected that Sonu was also in that fight; it is being verified. More CCTVs are being scanned and Sonu's cellphone details have been sought to know who had made the last phone call to him," the cop said.
The kin of the deceased alleged that the unidentified caller, who called Sonu to Samrat Colony, killed him.
The Shimlapuri police have lodged an FIR under Section 302 (murder) of the IPC.
