BENGALURU: Two software engineers from the city were questioned and then booked for allegedly making derogatory statements against India during an online audio chat on August 15 and 16. The conversations were on the social audio app Clubhouse.
The techies, both in their 30s, are residents of CV Ramannagar and Byappanahalli and work in different software firms in Manyata Tech Park.
The detention was made on the basis of a complaint filed by Sampigehalli police, who acted suo motu after coming across the audio clip of a hate speech that went viral.
ACP (East) A Subramanyeswara Rao said they will question a few more people whose voices were heard in the alleged hate conversation.
According to the FIR, the incident took place when a few people, part of the group "Namma night out guys" on the Culbhouse app, started audio-chatting. Some of the participants had the
Pakistan flag as their display picture.
"In the course of the conversation, comments against the country were passed. Soon, a argument broke out in the group and members indulged in hurting religious sentiments," statement filed by the police read.
