Thiruvananthapuram: The city police have launched a search for two men who escaped after pointing a gun at a police officer and another person, following a failed break-in attempt in a house at Edapazhanji on Monday.
Police said the suspects arrived in a two-wheeler at the house of one Sindhu, residing at CSM Nagar in Edapazhanji at around 11.30 am. They broke open the gate and tried to break the front door using an iron bar.
Praveen Kumar, employed as a driver in the house, spotted the men and confronted them. When he grew suspicious, he took the key from the scooter and one of the suspects pointed a gun at Kumar. They then fled the scene. Later, they arrived at a spare parts shop in Vanchiyoor. Seeing a police officer heading towards their scooter, the men again flashed the gun at the officer. They then escaped in the scooter.
The police learnt that the scooter in which they were travelling was coloured in the same fashion as that of another scooter and that the number plate was fake. The police suspect that they operated with a plan as they used a fake number plate and even gave the same colour to the scooter. Besides, they targeted a house which would be vacant during daytime. Sindhu, employed in a school at Malayinkeezhu, stayed alone in the house.
The police said that the Hindi-speaking suspects are believed to be within the city limits. Faces revealed from the CCTV footage did not match with the criminal database, police said. tnn
