PRAYAGRAJ: The three-day regional sports meet of Varanasi region commenced at the campus of Kendriya Vidyalaya AFS Manauri, Prayagraj on Tuesday. The regional sports meet would be witnessing battle of nerves in Kabaddi among girls of under-14 and 17 representing Seven KV’s of the state.
The meet was inaugurated by the principal of the venue school (KV Manauri), Shalini Dikshit. In this meet teams from various KV’s of Varanasi Region including KV Azamgarh, KV Shakti Nagar, KV Mau, KV Ballia, KV BHU (Shift 1 & 2), KV Bamrauli, KV New Cantt (Shift 1 & 2) KV AFS Gorakhpur, and KV Gangrani Kushinagar are participating.
The regional sports meet started with the flag hosting by Shalini Dikshit which was followed with the oath taking ceremony and declaration of the meet open by vice principal, PK Mishra.
The venue principal addressed the players and escorts before the start of the event. She highlighted that games and sports are an integral part of education. It develops a sense of responsibility, active and alertness, team management, and coordination. She motivated the players by saying to follow the Coubertin's ideal which says that “the important thing in the Olympic Games is not winning but fighting well. Life is not conquering but fighting well. Dikshit also said that the players should be focused on participation as it is more important and fighting well in any event rather than winning a medal.
The inaugural match was played between the teams of KV Shaktinagar and KV BHU (under 17 events) in which KV Shaktinagar was declared winner by 19 points.
This meet would conclude on August 25. In this event 111 players of U-17 and 77 players of U-14, from different Kendriya Vidyalayas of Varanasi Region are participating. Besides these players and escorts, eight match referees are involved to conduct this event and one observer has been deputed by Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan Regional Office Varanasi to observe the event. The programme was coordinated by Vinod Singh of the Vidyalaya.
