Daltonganj/Hazaribag: Three children drowned in an abandoned graphite mine in Palamu while another three drowned in Hazaribag dam on Sunday, police said on Monday.
In Palamu, the incident took place under Satbara police station limits when four children, aged between 10 and 12, had gone for a bath. As one of them started drowning, two others jumped in to save him but they drowned as well. Their friend immediately alerted the police and the locals, following which the three bodies were fished out. “The bodies have been sent for a post mortem at Medinirai Medical College and Hospital,” Palamu SP Chandan Kumar Sinha said.
The deceased were identified as Aman, Afsar and Akhtar.
In Hazaribag, the three children had gone for a bath in Rehda dam near the BSF campus. “The water level in the dam was close to its danger mark because of the incessant rainfall and the trio drowned. The BSF jawans tried rescuing them but it was all in vain,” Muffasil police station’s OC Bajrang Mahto said. tnn & agencies
