Bomb threat call received at 5-star hotel in Mumbai, caller demands Rs 5 crore ransom

MUMBAI: Sahar police on Monday registered a first information report (FIR) against an unidentified person who called on the landline number of a five-star hotel in Andheri east and threatened to blow the hotel if they would not pay Rs 5 crore ransom.
Police suspect that either someone has made the call to take revenge or some irked customer could have made the hoax call.
The hotel received the call at around 6pm and the caller informed that four bombs were planted inside the hotel premises.
"The caller demanded a ransom of Rs 5 crore to diffuse the bombs. The entire hotel was searched and the threat turned out to be a hoax, " said a police officer of the Sahar police station.
Police said the caller made the threat through a mobile number at 6.10pm on Monday. The caller said that four bombs had been placed in the hotel premises and would give them the locations and tell them how to diffuse the bombs if they pay him Rs 5 crore.
Police said the caller further threatened the hotel staff by saying that the family of the general manager of the hotel was on their target. The Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) and dog squad was alerted that carried out the search of the hotel premise and did not find any suspicious materials.
The complaint was filed by the hotel manager Paresh Bavdane. Police has booked the unknown person under the IPC section for act endangering human life, extortion and criminal intimidation.
