Haveri: Over 58,000 aspirants have registered for the maiden army recruitment rally in Haveri under the Centre’s Agnipath scheme, which will start on September 1 here.
Aspirants from 11 districts, including Haveri, Bagalkot, Vijayapur, Dharwad, Uttara Kannada, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Davanagere and others will participate in the rally at the Hosamani Siddappa district stadium.
Physical and medical tests of candidates and other formalities will be completed by September 20. An average of 3,000 candidates will participate each day. Colonel Anuj Gupta, the recruitment authority, visited Haveri on Monday and discussed preparations with deputy commissioner Sanjay Shettennavar, zilla panchayat CEO Mohammad Roshan and other officers.
The district authorities have requested accommodation and food facilities at a discounted price at hotels. The office-bearers of the hotel association have assured them that they will provide food at a 25 per cent discount to candidates and accommodation too at a discounted price.
The district administration will display boards at the railway station and bus terminal that would help candidates reach the recruitment venue.
Toilets, drinking water, temporary tents, a help desk, a document verification counter and other requirements will be provided by the district administration.
They are also planning to take the help of volunteers such as NSS, NCC, Scouts and Guides during the recruitment.
“As many as 20 army officers will arrive for the recruitment rally in Haveri and over 130 army staff will be there. We will accommodate officers in private hotels and staff will be at the sports hostel attached to the stadium. We are planning to reserve marriage halls and community halls in the city for the aspirants” Sanjay Shettennavar, the deputy commissioner of Haveri, said.
“A senior army officer informed me that managing such a large number of candidates requires planning and meticulous preparations. Both the administration and the police were more than forthcoming in providing assistance and making infrastructure available. The entire process is being carried out fairly and transparently so that candidates do not fall prey to touts,” he added.
