Steel City deploys 18 teams to clean waste after floodwater recedes

Jamshedpur: The East Singhbhum district administration has launched a cleaning drive across the three urban municipal areas of Jamshedpur, Mango and Jugsalai following heavy rain. On the directions of DC Vijaya Jadhav, the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) deployed nine separate teams to lift the sludge from the drains, and garbage litter from the colonies.
Out of the nine teams, five are pressed into Jamshedpur (West) and four in Jamshedpur (East). Jadhav said that with the receding of the flood water in the low-lying areas, civic officials have been asked to take up the cleaning work on a war footing.
Mango Notified Area Committee has constituted five teams for the cleaning work, while Jugsalai Municipal Council (JMC) constituted four separate teams. The catchment areas near the Subernarekha and Kharkhai rivers, besides the low-lying areas are on the priority of the municipal bodies.
The residential areas of Bagunnagar, Birsanagar, Bhuyadih, Bagbera, Jugsalai, Shashtrinagar, Ramnagar, Shyamnagar, Kunwarbasti, Chanakyapuri, Sankosai, Gwalabasti, Daigutu, many more, have been identified for the cleaning drive.
Upon cleaning, fogging and sprinkling of bleaching powder will be done to avert the possibility of spread of vector-borne diseases in the residential areas that was submerged in the flood waters for 24 hours following incessant rain on Friday and Saturday.
Notably, there are 174 drains, both big and moderate sized, in the three municipal areas, the Jamshedpur command area alone has 45 big drains.
Further, the DC said that restoration of the street lights in the affected areas is also going on in full swing.
"The street lights are being restored in Ramnagar, Shyamnagar, Karim city college line under Mango notified area committee's command area, besides street light restoration work is going on at other places too," the DC added.
Chief medical officer Sahir Pall said three separate medical teams comprising a doctor, nurse and a paramedic staff are holding camps at different places across the three urban municipal body areas. "Depending on the requirement, the strength of the medical teams, and count of the doctors will be raised," Pall added.
In the adjoining Adityapur town, the municipal corporation has deployed cleaning teams in all 11 wards.
