NOIDA: The Local Intelligence Unit (LIU) along with police held 15 Chinese nationals, including a woman, for allegedly staying in India after their visas expired from the last six months to one year.
According to the LIU, they have been carrying out continuous drives against foreigners who have been living illegally in Gautam Budh Nagar.
"All of them were held from various residential areas across the district," said Parul Punia, inspector in charge of LIU, Gautam Budh Nagar police.
"The 15 had come to India in 2020 on business visa. They were running their own businesses in India but even after their visas expired in 2021, they did not return to they country, violating the visa rules," said Punia adding that some of them had applied for visa extension in 2021 which was rejected.
The officer mentioned that the 15 have been sent to the deportation centre in Delhi and concerned agencies have been informed of the same.
Earlier on July 27, five foreign nationals had been detained from the district for illegally staying in India. As per the data shared by the LIU, as many as 42 Chinese nationals had been detained and sent to deportation centres between May 26 and August 22.
These nationals were detained as their visas had expired but they were staying illegally in the district.
