PIMPRI CHINCHWAD: The tax department of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has received responses from just 700 property owners, who have registered and assessed their properties after the 'My property My assessment' drive was launched this May.
PCMC officials said the self-assessment system helps new property owners assess, generate and pay the property tax online.
The drive was launched as a pilot project for two months to encourage citizens to bring their new properties into the tax net, digitally. Later, the civic body decided to implement it permanently.
Officials said the lack of widespread awareness among property owners was one reason.
Nilesh Deshmukh, assistant commissioner and head of the property tax department of the PCMC, said even these 700 responses are an encouraging sign as they have a ripple effect.
"For example, some 23 people assessed their new properties through the initiative. During scrutiny, we came across about 506 properties that were in the same buildings and not under the tax net. They were notified and brought under the tax net," he said.
