Teams formed to take action against tanneries not complying with roster

Kanpur: A meeting regarding pollution control was held in the Collectorate auditorium here on Sunday under the chairmanship of district magistrate Vishak G Iyer.
In the meeting, the DM has asked for strict action against the tanneries which are not functioning according to the roster. "Legal action should be taken against the tanneries who do not comply with the roster," he said.
Meanwhile, three teams have been constituted by the district magistrate to conduct random checks of all the tanneries.
The team one, comprising regional officer, Pollution Control Board and additional city magistrate-I, team two comprising assistant engineer Pollution Control Board, additional city magistrate-II and executive engineer, irrigation and team three comprising project manager, Ganga Pollution Control Unit, Uttar Pradesh, Jal Nigam and additional city magistrate-V, were instructed to conduct random check of all the tanneries.
If any tannery is found running in violation of the roster, strictest possible action should be taken against it, the DM said. He directed the team of ADM city and executive engineer Ganga Pollution Control Unit to go to the spot and start the work to take action regarding the flow of dirty water in Siddhanath Ghat.
He asked that to reduce the level of pollution in the winter season, all brick kiln operators should set their own firing schedule and ensure compliance with the instructions given by the government. To ensure this, the regional officer, Pollution Control Board was directed to hold a meeting with the sub-divisional magistrate concerned and brick kiln operators at the tehsil level.
