BHAGALPUR: A 17-year-old boy died by suicide after losing a PUBG game on his mobile phone Friday night.
The incident came to light on Saturday morning when the family members of Roshan Kumar alias Vikash found him hanging from the ceiling of his room at Choti Sardho village under Barari police station area in the district.
Sources said Roshan was playing PUBG game inside his room and did not answer when the family members called him for dinner. When he did not open the door on Saturday, they forced open the door and saw him hanging.
Police probe love angle
His Family sources claimed the teen would get extremely upset whenever he lost a PUBG game and the same must have happened on Friday night.
Some sources, however, said Roshan was in love with a girl in the locality but she had rejected him. This made him depressed and might have driven him to suicide.
PUBG was banned by the Indian government in September 2020, but it was later relaunched as Battlegrounds Mobile India, which the Centre banned again in July 2022 under section 69(A) of The Information Technology Act.
Roshan's father Ram Baran Choudhary said he and his elder son Rohit remain busy with door-to-door newspaper distribution work since early morning. Rohit, meanwhile, said they did not know why Roshan killed himself. Police sources said the autopsy report confirmed suicide.
Sardho panchayat mukhiya Bipin Nirala, quoting the family, said Roshan was a PUBG addict.
