Surat: Cop arrested, suspended for selling call detail records illegally

SURAT: City police suspended a head constable following his involvement in a racket selling call detail records to private persons.
Vipul Ranchhod Koradiya was arrested by a team of Delhi police on August 13 with regard to a case registered in Samaypur Badli police station of New Delhi.
Meanwhile, Surat police expressed ignorance about Koradiya's illegal activities. City police officials claimed that Koradiya was not reporting for duty on health grounds. "He informed the police station that he is not keeping well. He has been absent since February," a police officer in Kapodra police station told TOI.
Koradiya was posted in Kapodra police station. He was served notices by the police station to report on duty but he avoided it. "Delhi police laid a trap after getting information that some people were selling CDRs of any mobile number for money. They caught two persons from Delhi, who named Meet Shah of Surat," said a police officer.
Delhi police received information about a person Pavan Kumar running a detective agency, who was offering CDR for Rs 25,000. After which the police laid a trap and nabbed him. His interrogation revealed the identity of two persons. When the police nabbed those two, they named Shah and later Koradiya's role came to light.
Koradiya told the police that he used his friend Santosh alias Jayesh Arjun Lokde's office, computer and internet to obtain the CDR. Koradiya further told the Delhi police that he received Rs 1.6 lakh for the CDR.
