VARANASI: Munesh Yadav, who had lost last panchayat election of gram pradhan by a meagre margin, was sprayed with bullets in full public view, in Hathiya village under Sarai Lakhansi police station in Mau district on Sunday.

SP Mau Avinash Pandey said that Monesh had been killed for opposing use of alleged poor quality materials in the construction of a drain by the sitting gram pradhan and persons engaged by him.
All the persons involved in the fatal attack on Yadav have been identified and massive raids are being carried out for their early arrest, SP said adding, body of Yadav has been sent for postmortem examination.
Heavy police force has been deployed in the village to avoid recurrence of any untoward incident.
During initial investigation by senior police officials, it came to light that a drain was being constructed in Hathini village. There had been a dispute over quality of construction materials being used by people involved in its construction.
Police had also taken note of this dispute in past and initiated preventive action.
