GURUGRAM: Following the directions of chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar, all road development authorities in the city will soon install informatory sign boards on stretches under their jurisdiction, identifying who is in charge of them.
Eventually, private developers will also have to install similar sign boards in their colonies. The same will help residents and commuters submit complaints about the road infrastructure and ensure quick redressal.
Sudhir Rajpal, the GMDA CEO, held a meeting on Friday on this matter. "In his last visit to Gurugram, the CM said that citizens should be clear about which road comes under whose jurisdiction. All agencies will start working in this direction in a time-bound manner," he said on Saturday.
With multiple agencies charged with road maintenance across the city, most people now are unsure about road jurisdictions and where to register their complaints.
Officials said that even when they receive complaints about roads, there is often no clarity about which stretch the complainant is referring to, with the miscommunication creating scope for delays in resolving the problem. So, apart from identifying the agency in charge of the road, the sign boards will also include the asset ID of the road and a helpline number for residents to register complaints. Each agency will also have a specific colour code for their respective sign boards. For any stretch that does not have an asset ID, officials will create the same with the support of the Geographic Information System (GIS) of the GMDA.
Residents of the city welcomed the initiative. "This will hopefully ensure quick resolution of problems since residents and commuters will no longer have to call multiple agencies before they figure out who manages a particular road or drain," said Shilpa Rai, a resident of Sector 53.
