VISAKHAPATNAM: India’s first RT-PCR kit to detect monkeypox virus was launched in the city on Saturday.
Prof Ajay Kumar Sood, principal scientific adviser to the government of India, Dr Arabinda Mitra, scientific secretary at the office of the principal scientific adviser, and Prof Balram Bhargava, former director of ICMR, launched the kits.
The monkeypox kits were manufactured by Transasia Diagnostic Pvt Ltd at MedTech zone in Visakhapatnam. The kit is a highly sensitive and easy to use RT-PCR test with uniquely formulated primer and probe for enhanced accuracy.
