The excavation work for the construction of the concourse level at Nayaganj metro station
KANPUR: Under the Chunniganj-Nayaganj underground section of Corridor-1 (IIT – Naubasta) of Kanpur Metro Rail Project, first concourse slab casting work has commenced at the Nayaganj Metro station. This is a significant progress in the construction work of different levels of the underground station being done through top-down method.
The Nayaganj metro station will be around 225 meters long and 22.3 meters wide. At present roof slab casting work is progressing at full speed at all the four metro stations of Chunniganj-Nayaganj underground section i.e. Chunniganj, Naveen Market, Bada Chauraha and Nayaganj metro station. In Nayaganj, it has progressed a step ahead with commencement of concourse slab casting. The excavation work for the construction of the concourse level at Nayaganj metro Station began from July 8. A large part of the excavated area under the scope of work has already been covered and now the casting of the concourse slab has begun. Along with concourse slab casting at the station, excavation of concourse level and casting and excavation of roof slabs is also progressing simultaneously.
The four metro stations covered in the Chunniganj-Nayaganj underground section are being constructed with top-down method i.e. the construction process is being done from top to bottom. The concourse level in the underground station, which houses the passenger facilities like ticket counters and security check booths, is situated one floor below the road just opposite to the concourse level of the elevated stations.
This top-down method is being adopted to minimize impact on traffic due to the ongoing work at the under construction stations as the barricading on the road will be reduced after the construction of first floor starting from the road level. The construction work of the rest of the levels of the station under the road will continue and the movement of vehicles on the road will also continue smoothly.
