MARGAO: A day after IGP Omvir Singh Bishnoi pointed to the involvement of politicians in the land grab case, Congress leaders on Saturday have called for a free and fair probe. Congress working president and Cuncolim MLA Yuri Alemao demanded that police cases be filed against culprits irrespective of their party affiliations and to make the SIT report public, while Aldona MLA Carlos Ferreira urged the chief minister to give the police a free hand in the investigation.
“If there is involvement of politicians in land grabbing cases, the BJP government should not use it as a pressure tactic for its political benefit,” Alemao said. “If there is involvement of anyone, police should act and book the culprits.”
Alemao said that there was a general impression in the country that opposition MLAs and office bearers are “targeted selectively for political advantage of the BJP.”
Ferriera said that if the police have the information about the involvement of any high level politician involved in the fraud, “then the chief minister owes a duty and responsibility to make that politician step down from that post.”
“This will give the police a complete free hand, and the police will not manipulate the probe, nor any influence will be exerted on the police for diverting the course of the investigation,” Ferreira said.
