Nagpur: Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar said the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) might go after Union minister Nitin Gadkari in the near future. While not giving any reason on why he felt so, Kanhaiya made the statement after alleging that central agencies are being misused by the Modi government to silence the Opposition.
“Central agencies are there for security of the country, but the current government is misusing these agencies for the security of their kursi (power). But this is just a phase because we know that the truth can never be suppressed. In this country, CBI is being misused to silence the Opposition. I fear that CBI might go after (Nitin) Gadkari in a few days,” said Kanhaiya.
On August 17, BJP announced its new Parliamentary Board from which Gadkari and Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Chouhan were dropped.
On August 18, Congress party through its official Twitter handle @INCIndia had tweeted in Hindi that “Whoever is a challenger to the Prime Minister, will be shown the exit door. The same thing happened with Nitin Gadkari”.
Kanhaiya arrived in Nagpur on Saturday to attend a party event and rally. “We are paying tributes to our late leader Rajiv Gandhi ji on his birth anniversary by holding different events in various parts of the country. The Nagpur event, however, is unique. It’s called Techno-Rally,” said Kanhaiya. He added that the late former PM was the one who introduced computers and ushered in an age of technological revolution in India.
“We want to create awareness among people. Those people who are selling our country will be brought to their senses by those who wish to save the country,” said Kanhaiya. “Our focus is on the real issues like inflation and unemployment, and how government institutions are being looted by giving a free hand to friends of the government,” he added.
The Congress rally in Nagpur was attended by national, state and district-level leaders and is seen as an effort by the faction-ridden party to put up a cohesive face for the civic polls.
