Nagpur: District and addl sessions judge GP Deshmukh on Friday sentenced Anil Dhudas to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs50,000 holding him responsible for stabbing his wife, Kavita, to death in 2015.
Dhudas, who had attacked with wife on an earlier occasion too, was miffed as she had been staying away from him for few years after being assaulted. He also doubted her character.
Addl public prosecutor Prashant Sakhare had examined 18 witnesses in the case. “The woman had furnished two dying declarations which matched in contents. The court mostly depended upon the dying declaration among other evidences to order the conviction,” said Sakhare.
“One of the witnesses had also spotted the accused waiting at a place with the dagger in his hand,” he said.
The offence was registered at Kalmeshwar police station in December 2015 and the case was chargesheeted in the following year.
Woman’s body found with throat slit
A 22-year-old woman, identified as Kajal Prajapati, was found murdered near Suradevi Tekdi with her throat slit on Friday. Her boyfriend, Ankit Randive, is now under scanner.
It’s learnt that Randive, who was rendered jobless after the company he was working with had shut down, wanted to marry Prajapati whose father was opposing the love marriage.
The family had started looking for another suitor for the woman who worked as hospital attendant. Prima facie, Randive was miffed with her family and wanted to eliminate her to ensure she could be married off to someone else.
Police said Randive had fled with the victim’s scooter after murdering her. He was later traced at Hinganghat and rounded up by the Koradi police.
