GUWAHATI: Gatherings within the radius of 100 metres of the venues, where the recruitment exams for around 30,000 state government jobs will begin from Sunday, will be banned under Section 144 CrPC so that no anomalies or irregularities can take place in conducting the tests.
This is in addition to the suspension of the mobile internet services at the venues and in the aforesaid area in the surroundings of the venues and ban on bringing mobile phones inside the exam centres by candidates or any other official from the district administration, police and the Board of Secondary Education (SEBA), Assam, which is conducting the exams.
Seba chairperson RC Jain, while addressing a press conference here, said, “Candidates found with any banned item inside the exam venues will face prosecution under Section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of IPC. This may create problems for the candidates as they may not be able to appear in any government recruitment exams in the future.”
Any kind of electronic equipment, including mobile phones, bluetooth devices, calculators, pen drives, and any textual material in printed or written form have been banned inside the exam centres.
The candidates will be allowed to carry only the photo identity card issued by competent authority, pen, pencil, eraser and credit or debit cards or any plastic card inside the venues.
Meanwhile, in a bid to ensure that only residents of Assam can appear in the exams, Jain said employment exchange registration of the candidates within the jurisdiction of Assam was mandatory at the time of applying for the jobs. “Nobody can lie in that as we know that an Aadhar card is needed for registration in employment exchanges,” he added.
According to rules, one is eligible for registration in one employment exchange only in the state, where they are permanent residents within the jurisdiction of the district. An Aadhar card is required for registration.
“Moreover, mentioning the home district of the candidates at the time of application for the jobs is also mandatory. These mandatory disclosures by the candidates will help make sure that only the Assam residents get the opportunity to sit for the test,” he added.
Besides, he said all steps have been taken to foil impersonation. “Strict screening of the candidates at the entrance of the exam centres will be done. Two observers — one appointed by the state government and the second one by Seba — will be deployed at the centres. Apart from that there will be heavy police deployment. So, there is no chance of proxy candidates appearing in the exams,” he added.
The candidates will not be allowed to leave the exam halls without submitting the question booklets and OMR sheets. “If anyone is found doing so, the candidate will be treated as absent,” he added.
The question papers will be in five languages — Assamese, English, Bodo, Hindi and Bengali.
