Panaji: The Goa government on Friday launched a QR code facility to ensure easier payment of water bills online. A similar service was unveiled in June for paying electricity bills.
Chief minister Pramod Sawant said that Goa has not only become the first state to achieve ‘Har Ghar Jal’ certification, but also to provide QR code for payment of water bills and spot billing system.
“After achieving 100% piped water supply to every household, we will be providing five persons in every village with field water testing kits to test the quality of water. Already 14 national accredited labs have been established in Goa and it ensures supply of purified water,” said Sawant. The state government has tied up with TJSB Bank for the online payment using QR code.
Union minister for Jal Shakti Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said that 100% coverage of piped water supply is only the first step for Goa. “We have to ensure that there is quality, quantity and continuity. We have to ensure that there is equitable distribution of water and that it is supplied every day at the same scheduled time. Now we will put this to test every day. The day water supply is not received in any place, the photos of the Prime Minister and the chief minister Pramod Sawant will be put up on social media stating that they did not get water,” he said.
He also felicitated a youth entrepreneur from Goa, Alan Lobo, who has helped develop the QR code for all waterbodies in Goa.
