CHENNAI: The CPI and the VCK on Saturday urged the Tamil Nadu government to publish the Justice Aruna Jagadeesan commission report on the police firing on anti-Sterlite protesters in Tuticorin.
CPI state secretary R Mutharasan and VCK leader and MP Thol Thirumavalavan issued statements requesting the government to publish the report of the commission.
The government should take appropriate legal action against the officials who were responsible for the attack on the anti-Sterlite protesters on May 22, 2018 which claimed 13 lives, Mutharasan said.
Thirumavalavan said the police firing on the protesters amounted to questioning the validity of democracy. “The government should take action, without much delay, based on the report of the commission,” he said.
On Friday, the CPM urged the government to release the panel report.
