Kanpur: Additional sessions judge Jitendra Kumar Dwivedi on Thursday rejected the three bail applications of Atiq Khichdi, a history-sheeter and one of the accused in the June 3 Nai Sadak violence.
The court also rejected the bail of Ali Shan, a co-accused in the Nai Sadak violence. Public prosecutor Pankaj Tripathi, while opposing the bail, pleaded that Atiq had received Rs 4 lakh from one Afzal to gather people for the violence. He has been absconding since the incident. After about two months, he surrendered before the court following police pressure to arrest him. There were all possibilities that if set free, Atiq would jump the bail.
ADGC Dinesh Agarwal submitted that this court had already rejected the anticipatory bail application of Atiq Khichdi. It was wrong to state that he had no criminal history as many as 13 criminal cases, including cases of committing heinous crimes were registered against him at different police stations of the city.
Earlier, the defence counsel had argued that the accused was in his house at the time of the incident and that was why he was not seen in CCTV footage. As the police had implicated him in a false case, therefore, he should be granted bail, the defence counsel pleaded.
The court, after hearing the arguments, rejected the bail applications.
