After years, PCMC all set to recruit permanent staff again

PCMC officials said the Maharashtra government recently lifted its ban on recruitment. The last date to submit applications for the vacancies is Sept 8.

After the Maharashtra government lifted restrictions on recruitment by civic bodies, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has decided to fill as many as 386 vacancies in different departments. All the vacancies are for permanent staff, said officials.

Complete information regarding the posts and vacancies have been uploaded on the PCMC website, Assistant Municipal Commissioner Waman Nemane told The Indian Express.

“Candidates who want to apply for the posts should read the information in detail and apply accordingly. The should check the posts and verify whether their qualification is suited for the particular post,” he said.

PCMC officials said the state government had lifted the ban on recruitment a couple of months ago. “The ban was in force for nearly seven years,” officials said. After the ban was lifted, the PCMC had issued advertisement for recruiting staff nurses. However, the High Court later stayed the process of recruiting staff nurses.

PCMC sources said the civic body has nearly 5,000 vacancies, which will be filled up in a phased manner.

A civic body official said there will be written tests but no interviews. “Those scoring highest marks in written exam will get the PCMC job,” he said.

PCMC Additional Municipal Commissioner Vikas Dhakane said, “PCMC has been filling up vacancies so far on contractual basis. While doctors and nurses get job in PCMC hospitals on 11-month contracts, employees in other departments get jobs for six months. We pay them an honorarium. But the process of selecting employees on permanent basis is now underway. We will soon be filling up most of the posts. These posts are basically of employees from Class III and Class IV category.”

Some of the vacant posts in PCMC are those of additional legal consultant, law officer, deputy fire brigade officer, clerk, electrical junior officer, animal keeper, health inspector, social activist, horticulture supervisor. assistant garden superintendent, garden superintendent civil engineer assistant and junior civil engineer.
