SHIVAMOGGA: The district administration on Thursday extended prohibitory orders clamped in Shivamogga and Bhadravathi till Friday even as cops beefed up security ahead of Friday namaz in the wake of communal tension. Police have banned pillion riders below the age of 40 and have completely banned use of two wheelers between 9pm and 5am.
While the situation is under control in the twin cities, police have continued their vigil. IGP (Eastern range) K Thiyagarajan told reporters that restrictions will remain in force on Friday.
Meanwhile, a day after she questioned the veracity of the police version of firing on her husband, Shabana, wife of prime accused Mohammed Jabiullah in the Shivamogga stabbing case, said she will approach the State Human Rights Commission. Referring to former minister KS Eshwarappa's statement that firing on Jabiullah is a sample, she told reporters that police used fire power under political pressure.
"On Tuesday night, police arrived at our home and picked him up. A few hours later, I got to know that cops had opened fire at my husband and injured him. When I met him at McGann Hospital, he told me that he was blindfolded and shot by cops. Police fired at him to threaten our community," she claimed.
"My husband is innocent. Though he was booked in two cases, investigation had cleared him. He was wrongly accused in a violence case during Ganesha festival," she said.
