Leaders and supporters of the North East Students’ Organisation protest to demand scrapping of the Citizenship Amendment Act, in Guwahati on Wednesday
GUWAHATI: The Assam government on Thursday appealed to the organisations, which resumed the anti-CAA protests on Wednesday, not to createthe 0any kind of unrest when the state’s biggest recruitment examination for 30,000 grade III and IV posts are starting on August 21.
Minister for information and public relations and state government spokesperson Pijush Hazarika said, “We may have differences (with the protesting organisations) in terms of our ideology, but one should not create a restless environment during one of the largest recruitment drives of the state government, holding the job aspirants as hostages.”
Hazarika also said during the protest in the state in 2019, some leaders and organisations had misled the common people with twisted and wrong facts and statements. Some miscreants even damaged many properties in Guwahati like the Kalakhetra in the name of protests. “The people understood the reality and gave a mandate to the present government,” the minister humbly added.
On the issue of applicants from other states appearing for the Assam state government jobs, the minister said that governments are always run under the laws of the Constitution and under rules and regulations of the country. Anyone eligible to apply for a few posts should not be debarred from taking the recruitment test. “Following the same rules, people from Assam are also working in other state governments,” he added.
Over 14 lakh candidates are expected to appear for the recruitment examinations which will be held on August 21 and 28 and on September 11.
The North East Students’ Organisation (NESO) resumed their protests demanding repeal of the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act, after a gap of two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic, across the northeast on Wednesday.
The All Assam Students Union (Aasu), a part of the NESO, staged protests in all the district headquarters of Assam amid heavy security. The Aasu leaders staged the protest outside the Swahid Bhawan at Guwahati’s Uzanbazar.
