BENGALURU: While the border dispute between
Karnataka and
Maharashtra had died down, a row has opened up on another front: Telangana has suggested Raichur district – one of the most backward in the state — should be merged with it. At a public event on Tuesday, Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao had said people in Raichur want their areas to be merged with Telangana. He said they were attracted to the TRS government’s welfare schemes.
Rao’s comments appear to be a swipe at the “neglect” meted out to the district by Karnataka’s BJP government, while highlighting the “superior” performance of his own government. Karnataka, which is usually quick to condemn such statements, this time maintained a studied silence until Congress legislator Priyank Kharge criticised CM Basavaraj Bommai for not responding to Rao’s comments.
