HOWRAH: Two persons carrying Rs38.5 lakh of unaccounted cash in two bags were intercepted by RPF officials at Howrah station on Thursday. RPF officials had spotted the youths coming out of the station near gate number 4 and 5 of Howrah station old complex around 3pm and began questioning them.
Suspicious, they checked their bags and found the cash. Rustam Ansari (39), a resident of
Bihar and Subham Verma (20), a UP resident, were arrested and income tax officials were informed.
"The men couldn't justify the source of the cash. During a preliminary probe, they claimed they were going to buy gold ornaments from Kolkata using the money, but we need to question them further to know where they were taking the money and how they got such a huge amount of cash," said an RPF official.
The money was handed over to the income tax department, officials said.
