MUMBAI: A day after Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde said at an event that undergraduate and post-graduate students should get bus passes, the BEST announced on Friday that any UG or PG student can now avail of concessional travel in the red buses from August 22.
The monthly pass of 100 trips of Rs 999 can be availed at concessional rate of Rs 500 (505). The quarterly value of pass will be Rs 1,500 and half yearly pass available at Rs 2,500.
"The issuance of pass will begin from August 22 and students can also apply online on the BEST chalo app or get a smart card issued from the nearest depot," said BEST general manager Lokesh Chandra. He said that the CM was speaking at the Amrit Mahotsav event of BEST at the NCPA on Thursday. "The moment he asked me on stage whether it was possible to give concessional travel to UG and PG students in Mumbai, I immediately replied in the affirmative. And within 24 hours, I have issued an order for giving concessions to these students."
He further said that the BEST will now cater to all students in the city. "We have also revised the concessions for school students and those studying in junior colleges," he said.
As per the new press statement by BEST, those studying upto Class V can get a concessional monthly pass of Rs 200, quarterly for Rs 600 and six-month pass for Rs 1,000. Similarly, the students from Class VI to X can avail of concessional travel at Rs 250 for monthly, Rs 750 for quarterly and Rs 1,250 for half yearly pass.
Those studying in junior college (Class XI and XII) can avail of multi pass of 100 trips valued at Rs 649 for concessional rate of Rs 350. The quarterly pass will be Rs 1,050 and half years pass will be Rs 1,750.
