To promote tourism, Puducherry is connecting with private firms

The new properties at Old Distillery, Old Port Complex and Arts and Crafts Village, the Tourism Department will shortly be transferring them to the private parties for starting different business enterprises.


The Minister for Public Works, Mr. K. Lakshminarayanan, while highlighting in a press conference to declare about the starting of a three-day food festival at Old Port Complex, he said that the tenders inviting private players to direct the properties at Old Distillery and Crafts Village had been floated by now.


At the distillery, the new buildings will be handed over to the private entrepreneurs so that they can be converted into start hotel cum entertainment centres. At the crafts village, the suites along with kitchens built in the Kerala, Tamil, and Andhra styles, would also be provided to the private players for their proper management. At the Old Port, the warehouses have been modified into conference halls. Also, they would be tendered soon, requesting people to manage the halls, he said.


He said that on a revenue sharing mode, all properties will be tendered with private ventures. The government is interested to market tourism by bringing private firms into the matter. As a facilitator, here the Tourism Department will act to promote activities and draw more tourists, Mr. Lakshminarayanan said. Also, the government was in process of selecting a consultant who for tourism activities would promote 100 acres of land at Manapet, he added.
