Mangaluru: The Belthangady police have arrested three persons and seized two cows and a calf that were being transported illegally on Thursday. The arrested accused are Razak P, Mohammed Rafiq and Nagesh Shetty, who were in an SUV. Police said that a car was stopped at Manjotti Antrayapalke. As the police were questioning the car driver, they noticed an SUV coming from behind. When the police asked the SUV driver to stop, the driver of the first vehicle that was stopped, fled from the spot. When the police inspected the SUV, they found two cows and a calf being transported in a inhumane manner. Rauf alias Mohammed Asif and Rajesh are absconding. The value of the seized property is around Rs 4.2 lakh. It is suspected that both the vehicles were involved in the cattle smuggling operation. The case is under investigation
Man gets 3 years RI in Pocso case
A court here has sentenced a person to three years of rigorous punishment, and imposed a fine of Rs 25,000, after convicting him in a Pocso case. The convict Vincent Pinto was found guilty under Section 8 of the Pocso Act. He was also sentenced to one-year simple imprisonment, for being guilty under section 506 of the IPC (punishment for criminal intimidation). Bantwal town police had filed a charge-sheet against him.
Absconding accused arrested
Puttur town police station officials have arrested an accused, who was absconding in a car theft case reported in 2001. The arrested accused is Sudhir Prabhu. Police said that that two accused were involved in the car theft case. They were arrested, but absconded after receiving bail. The police arrested accused Hanif on November 4, 2018, and Sudhir was arrested from Barke in the city on Tuesday.
