Declare lumpy skin disease a pandemic: CM to Centre

Jaipur: Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Thursday demanded that lumpy skin disease among cows has now spread to four-five states and considering the gravity of the situation, the central government should declare it a pandemic and give assistance to the state to handle the situation.
He demanded this while speaking to the media in Ahmedabad on Thursday.
The state government said that it has placed orders for 41 lakh doses of goat pox vaccine to fight the disease spreading among cows in the state.
According to official data, the number of cows affected has exceeded 5.12 lakh, while death crossed 22,000 on Thursday.
Animal husbandry department Secretary P C Kishan informed that preparations have been completed for the purchase 41 lakh doses of goat pox vaccine which has been found effective against the disease.
He informed that Ajmer District Milk Producer Association has started the work of vaccination by purchasing 1 lakh doses of vaccine.
He informed that the District Milk Producers Association Alwar has issued orders to buy 6.80 lakh, Kota 1 lakh, and Udaipur 2 lakh goat pox vaccine doses.
The government has also roped in the ayurvedic department in the fight against the virus. The ayurveda department has been asked to issue circulars on effective medicines.
