GUWAHATI: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Assam, which gave a tough fight to the BJP in the elections to the GMC earlier this year, on Thursday alleged a multi-crore scam in the name of smart city projects in the capital city and demanded a probe.
State joint coordinator of the party, Jitul Deka, while addressing a press conference here, said the state government claims that over Rs 364 crore have been spent for of various smart city projects from 2016 to date, which is not true.
“According to information, Rs 33 crore has already been spent in the ongoing Brahmaputra river front development project. But the tardy progress of the project tells a different story. The big question is where exactly the money has been utilised,” he added. The party also alleged a scam in implementing the streetlight project as most of the localities do not have streetlights even after the Guwahati Smart City Limited said around Rs 14 crore have been spent on the project.
