Haryana will be developed as the sports capital of the country, said chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar in the city on Monday, while distributing cash rewards and job letters to the winners and participants of the Commonwealth Games 2022.
Khattar said the state government is following a policy of cradle to medal and all kinds of infrastructure and support system are being provided by the government. "We are developing Haryana as the sports capital of the country and for this sports mapping of the state is underway. Every district will be developed as a hub for a particular kind of sport with all kinds of related infrastructure for that particular sport," said the CM. Besides, the government is developing sports nurseries at 1, 100 schools across the state to spot and nurture talent at a young age.
Sportspersons from Haryana won 20 medals, including 9 gold. Out of the total medals won by the Indian sportspersons in the Commonwealth Games, the Haryana medal winners have contributed about 33%. The gold medallists of these games have been given Rs 1.50 crore, silver medallists have been rewarded Rs 75 lakh, bronze medallists have been given Rs 50 lakh and sports persons securing the fourth position have been given Rs 15 lakh. Along with this, an amount of Rs 7.50 lakh was given to all the sports persons who participated in CWG 2022.
A total of 210 players participated in CWG 2022 out of which 42 players were from Haryana. Out of these 42 players, 20 returned with medals - 17 medals in individual events and 3 medals in team events.
