RAJKOT: A city-based industrialist's 25-year-old son was rescued in less than 10 hours of being kidnapped allegedly by four people who were nabbed along with two others who had plotted the abduction.
The accused had demanded Rs 15 crore for his safe release.
In a joint operation, the Rajkot police and Amreli local crime branch (LCB) rescued Adnan, son of industrialist Shabbir Telwala, from the kidnappers' car on the Savarkundla-Rajula highway on Monday night.
Police also arrested the four residents of Rajula - Nayeem Kanojiya, Amin Maghra, Abdul Bukera and Hamid Jakhra.
Kamal Barad, a former employee of Telwala's firm and his friend Moin Pathan, who had hatched the plan were arrested from Rajkot city.
At around 11.15am on Monday, the four crashed their car into Adnan's near the latter's factory Kamal Bearings in Shapar-Veraval industrial areas. After a brief altercation, they forced Adnan into their car and fled.
When Adnan did not reach the factory for a long time, the manager called up Telwala who was at his other factory Kamal Enterprise in the same area. When Telwala called up Adnan twice, his phone was switched off and suspected that his son might have met with an accident.
Clueless about kidnapping, his accident doubt grew stronger when he saw Adnan's car with the bumper broken and his spectacles lying on the ground near the factory.
Telwala alerted cops who started scanning CCTV footage of the nearby factories. Even the cops assumed that Adnan had met with an accident.
It was only at 3.55 pm when Telwala got a ransom call for Rs 15 crore that he knew about the kidnapping. The person at the other end made him speak to Adnan and disconnected, asking Telwala to arrange for the cash within two hours.
After three minutes, he again got a call threatening that his son would be killed if police were informed. However, cops were with Telwala when he got the calls and they immediately started tracing the location of the number.
At 5.15 pm, Telwala got the third call and this time Adnan spoke to him to inquire about arranging the cash. As per police direction, Telwala told him that he would arrange for the ransom fast.
Meanwhile, the phone location was traced to Dungar village near Rajula and Amreli local crime branch was alerted.
Rajkot police also found from CCTV footage that kidnappers used a grey coloured car.
Amreli LCB in-charge inspector R K Karamta said they kept a watch on the Savarkundla-Rajula highway and intercepted the car. They nabbed the four accused and rescued Adnan.
