NEW DELHI: In yet another targeted killing in Jammu and Kashmir, a Kashmiri Pandit was shot dead while his brother severely injured at Chotigam in Shopian.
A police official identified the deceased as Sunil Kumar and the injured as Pintu Kumar.
"Terrorists fired upon civilians in an apple orchard in Chotipora area of Shopian. One person died and another was injured. Both belong to minority community. Injured person has been shifted to hospital. The whole area has been cordoned off. Further details shall follow," tweeted J&K's Kashmir Zone Police.
Terrorists have stepped up attacks in the Kashmir valley over the past week. A policeman was killed in Nowhatta on Sunday and a migrant labourer in Bandipora last week.
Two grenade attacks took place in Budgam and Srinagar districts on Monday.
In May this year, Rahul Bhat, a state government employee, was gunned down by terrorists inside the Tehsil office in Chadoora town in Budgam district of Jammu and Kashmir. Bhat had got the job of a clerk under the special employment package for migrants in 20120-11.
