On the day when the grand alliance ministry was expanded, the BJP called a crucial meeting of the Bihar core group of its unit in Delhi. The selection of a new leader of opposition and a new state president figured at the meeting attended by home minister Amit Shah, party president JP Nadda and senior leaders and several Union ministers from Bihar. The meeting also discussed the strategy for the party in 2024, following the exit of Nitish Kumar from NDA.

Several leaders gave their views on who could be the leader of opposition in the assembly. BJP had held a joint national executive of all party morchas in Patna last month. Before the national executive, 400 leaders from across the country spent two days in 200 assembly seats to assess the ground situation. As per report submitted by them, there was 'palpable anger on the ground against Nitish Kumar'. Some of the leaders told ET that workers and the people in some places were 'angry with the party's local leadership', though Prime Minister Narendra Modi 'remained a uniting factor' among workers and voters. Some leaders highlighted the poor infrastructure in parts of the state, compared to other heartland states.

The BJP will make use of the feedback as the starting point to sharpen attack on Nitish Kumar over governance and law and order. As per party leaders, beneficiaries of central government schemes made for around 80% of population and above in each constituency, which the BJP will tap for garnering votes in 2024. Before the Bihar BJP meeting, senior leaders from Bihar met at Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan's residence to finetune the meeting agenda.
